James B. Mitchell, born on May 1st, 1937, in Little Falls, MN was sent to his eternal home on February 20, 2025, in Louisville, KY due to a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones during his last hours. Jim is survived and missed by his loving wife Sandra K. Mitchell of 59 years; and his children Shelly, Dan (Angelia), and Bill (Tracey). Forever cherished and remembered by his 7 grandchildren, Kayla, Bailey, Carter, Ava, Troy, Allie, and Aubrey. Siblings Bob (Cathy) and Bonnie and their families. Jim was predeceased by his father Paul, his mother Delores, and his sister Jeannie. He was also predeceased by his in-laws Harold and Bernice. Jim was born in Little Falls, MN and graduated from St. Cloud College with an engineering degree. After graduation he joined the Army National Guard in 1961 and was a staff sergeant for the next six years. During this time Jim moved to St. Paul and started a job with Whirlpool Corporation. He met his true love Sandy in the fall of 1963, and they married in October of 1965. During his long career with Whirlpool, he and his family got transferred to Danville, KY in 1984. He later retired in 1996 and moved to Louisville to be closer to his children and their families in 2002. Once in Louisville Jim became a engineering plastics consultant for the GE Corporation over the last 20 years Jim enjoyed watching his precious grandchildren grow up and spent many an afternoon in the carpool line. Jim and Sandy formed lots of very close friendships over their years and enjoyed many nights playing card games with their groups of friends. Jim and Sandy are parishioners at St. Michaels church and have been members for 20 years. At St. Michaels he became a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 15525 for 10 years.
Funeral service will be held on March 8, 2025 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive, Louisville, KY 40299. Visitation will be 10:00 am -11:00 am in the gathering space, mass at 11:00 am
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to go to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research in memory of James B. Mitchell@michaeljfox.org.
