Jessica Nicole Lyons, 42, was born in Baltimore, MD on December 6, 1982, as an adult made a life for herself in Louisville, KY, and passed away in her home on October 6, 2025. She held a Master of Arts degree in Gender Studies from the University of Louisville where she focused on integrated approaches to the prevention of intimate partner violence. She has worked at the national, state, and community levels, leading and facilitating a variety of training initiatives focused on domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking prevention and response. She has also managed several large-scale, national and statewide training and evaluation projects for government agencies, including the US Department of Defense, US Department of Health and Human Services, US Air Force, US Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, and many state departments of health, education, and human services.
When Jessy was not working, she enjoyed playing the ukelele, baking pies, reading, collecting magnets from her travels, and listening to her favorite band, The Beatles. Her smile could light up a room and her laugh was infectious. What brought Jessy the most joy in life was her two beautiful sons, Walter age 9, and Marshall age 6. She loved to tell others all the wonderful things her boys were into and looked forward to every moment she could share with them.
Jessy is survived by her young sons, Walter and Marshall Lyons-Moeller, and their father, James Moeller. She is survived by her parents Earl & Sandy (Loughry) Ridgell, Jim Lyons, and Dwana (Johnson) Hackman. She is also survived by her sisters, Heather (Lyons) Spinelli, Jill Ridgell, and Becky (Webster) Ortiz. Her surviving nieces and nephews are Angelo Spinelli, Stella Spinelli, Landon Ortiz, and Camryn Ortiz. She is predeceased by her sister, Lauren Rendelman.
Plans for a memorial service are ongoing. Her family is asking that any gifts or donations be made to her sons.
“Blackbird singing in the dead of night. Take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.”- The Beatles
