Obituary

Adam Chwalik, age 59, of Georgetown, Indiana, fell asleep in death, peacefully at home, in the early hours of Monday, September 15, 2025, in the arms of his beloved wife, Agnieszka.

Adam was preceded in death by his mother, Alina Chwalik, and by his father-in-law, Alojzy Wojciech Dzierżawski.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Agnieszka Chwalik; his son, Ivan Chwalik (Jessica); his mother-in-law, Eliza Dzierżawski; and his brother-in-law, Michał Dzierżawski.

Adam was born in 1966, in Poland. At age 7, he moved to Germany, and three years later, in 1977, he and his mother immigrated to the United States.

Adam was known for his strong work ethic, which began early — he took on his first job at the age of 13. After high school, he served four years in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Virginia and deployed on nuclear submarines across the globe. Following active duty, he enlisted for an additional four years in the Navy Reserve.

It was during this time that a visit to Poland with his mother changed the course of his life — he met the love of his life, Agnieszka. She joined him in the U.S., and they were married in 1991. Together, they traveled extensively and built a life filled with love, resilience, adventure, and shared faith.

After carefully studying the Bible, Adam made the personal decision to dedicate his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1996.

In 1998, Adam and Agnieszka welcomed their only child, Ivan. Adam was thrilled to become a father and worked tirelessly to provide for his family.

Over the years, Adam relocated many times for work, living in New York, Montana, California, Arizona, South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Indiana. During their 10 years living in New Orleans, the family weathered eight named hurricanes, including Hurricane Katrina, and over 50 tropical depressions.

While Adam worked for many years as a welder and pipefitter, he also had a real passion for automotive repair. He was a talented mechanic from a young age, and he found immense joy in simply working in the garage helping friends with their car troubles. Adam was a true jack-of-all-trades, and was known for approaching every project with confidence, care, and the belief that no task was too big or too small. His generosity with his talents and time made a lasting impression on everyone who interacted with him.

In January of 2024, Adam was unexpectedly diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive brain cancer. He underwent a life-saving craniotomy, and, in typical Adam fashion, he surpassed all expectations during his recovery. Though doctors warned he might lose his ability to walk or talk, Adam's determination and hard work in rehab allowed him to regain most of his abilities and to return to doing the things he loved most.

Despite the toll of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, Adam found great joy in volunteering for local construction projects at Kingdom Halls and sharing his Bible-based hope with others in the ministry. He regularly attended congregation meetings and continued to encourage others with his expressions of faith — even just one week before his death. In his final days, Adam was surrounded by friends and family whose love and presence brought him comfort.

Adam faced his illness and eventual death with courage and conviction, remaining grounded in his hope in the resurrection promise found at Acts 24:15. While he did not want to leave his beloved Agi, he remained steadfast in his faith until the end.

Although he will be deeply missed, his family and friends now look forward to the day when, as promised, they will embrace Adam once again. In the meantime, they treasure the memories of his quiet strength, endurance, and unwavering faith.

Friends are warmly invited to a memorial service on Saturday, October 11th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 8409 County Line Rd., Sellersburg, IN 47172. The program will also be streamed via Zoom; for details, please contact Ivan or Jessica.
