Mitchell Gene “Mick” Maddox was born October 6, 1948, in McHenry, Kentucky, and spent much of his early life in Lafayette, Indiana, a place that remained an important part of his family’s story. He passed away on September 24, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 77.

Mick was a proud United States Marine and Vietnam veteran who served his country with courage and distinction. His military honors included the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and decorations recognizing his service in Vietnam. His unit was recognized for extraordinary gallantry in combat, honoring the service and sacrifice of Mick and his fellow Marines.

Mick was deeply dedicated to his Christian faith. In his later years, he found purpose in serving others through his church and through his work at the YMCA, where he developed deep and lasting friendships. His faith, commitment to service, and the relationships he formed along the way were meaningful parts of his life.

Mick is survived by his daughter, Rachel; his son, Christopher; his brother, Terry; and his niece and nephew, Heather and Brian.

He will be laid to rest with military honors at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
